Passport Basics

           

Where to get Passport Applications



Pick up US Passport or Renewal Applications at you local Post Office


If you do not have a Passport a visit to a Passport Agent is required, find a location near you at: http://travel.state.gov/passport/npic/agencies/agencies_913.html



First-time Applicants


Fill out Application


Provide evidence of US citizenship







Provide Identification








Make copies of front and back of all identification documents on white paper 8 ½ x 11"



Pay Application Fee (as the fee is subject to change check the most current fees for adults and children at: http://travel.state.gov/passport/




One 2 x 2 inch color Passport Photo that must adhere to a specific format, see format and photo requirements at: http://travel.state.gov/passport

 



Renew Passport



Fill out Renewal Application


Include most recent US Passport Book (not more than 15 years old) and or US Passport Card



If your name has changed since last passport provide a certified copy of your marriage certificate or court order.



Pay Application Fee.  Make check or money order payable to Department of State, include full name and date of birth printed or typed on the front of the check or money order.  Do not seen cash.  



One 2 x 2 inch recent color Passport Photo



Mail Passport Application with all necessary documents to:

Need a Passport in a hurry?



Traveling within the next two weeks?



Make an appointment at a regional passport agency and arrive with all necessary documents. Be prepared to pay an additional fee plus overnight delivery charges.
